Love and hate

I've been realizing more and more how much my relationship with my beloved adopted hometown can be likened to an on-again/off-again romantic relationship.

I've started to put this idea to words and hope to share something more concrete with you all in the very near future but in the meantime, isn't it uncanny how this city and living here invokes a feeling of a romantic relationship? Do any of you have similar feelings about your real or adopted hometowns?

I'm very curious....

....by the way, I NEED these shoes!!!!

Such a sweet post, and sweet photo.=)
I understand how you think, definitely. Personally though, I don't have the on-again/off-again feeling for Paris, because the day I sat on the airplane to immigrate to Paris, I really said to myself that "This is it! Starting NOW France is your Home, no matter if you will like it or not". So for me a better Paris-metaphor is actually "arranged marriage" since I decided to move to Paris before I had meet the city. But yeah, 21 months later I genuinely LOVE Paris, so I definite agree that feelings for this fab city can be compared to a romantic relationship. And I have never felt that way about another city, so it must be something in the water. =))
And - OMG - Please inform us all about where those shoes can be purchased.... =))

Nina - thanks for the comment! What a good attitude you have....I like the concept of Paris as an arranged marriage and maybe I need to start looking at it that way!

And yes to both you and Kylie..the shoes are amazing - check them out here thanks to one of my followers: http://www.amazon.com/Birkis-Dorian-Birko-Flor-Clog/dp/B000XEEEIC

I actually think I will be purchasing them :)

Thanks for using my photo in your blog. Best of luck in Paris - my favourite city in the world. I lived in Paris for two and a half years in the early nineties loved my life there.

I can so imagine you walking around Paris in those shoes! My relationship with my new city (though not another country....) has been complicated too. I kind of liken it to dating actually. With SF, we started off pretty hot and heavy-- infatuation really, and then we had to slow our roll a bit. Step back, get to know each other, take a little space. But we're dating again and I can tell you that I like SF quite a lot. It had been a while since I'd been to your blog. I'm so delighted to visit again and see these pictures and glimpses into your adventures!

I definitely relate! I am back in LA for a short visit and loving it. But I can't stop thinking about New York. Decisions are going to have to be made in just a few weeks and I have no idea which one (or if there is some other city calling my name?) I will choose.

JChevais, the photo was taken in Toronto, so you should be able to find the shoes in Canada.

KEF - I lived in the 18th, right in the heart of the Arab area. It was gritty but safe and interesting.
